International Competition for an Urban Project Idea

As part of the 2021 edition of the World Habitat Day which will be celebrated in Cameroon under the theme “Accelerating Urban Action for a Carbon-Free World.”
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development hereby invites students registered into universities and schools of Arts, Architecture, Engineering, Town Planning and Urban Development to participate in the international competition for an Urban Project Idea launched on Monday, 9 August 2021.
The competition is intended to select an innovative urban development concept in line with, and even beyond the expectations of our cities with regard to the challenges they face.

1. Urbanization and Carbon Emissions
The global urban population has spiralled upwards since the mid-twentieth century. Between 1950 and today, the population of cities around the world has more than quadrupled with over 4.2 billion people now living in urban environments according to the World Bank.

Cameroon, officially the Republic of Cameroon, is a country in Central Africa, located in the Gulf of Guinea. It is one of the few African countries open to six neighbouring countries, as it is bordered by Nigeria to the West and North, Chad to the North-East, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Congo to the East and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of Congo to the South. Cameroon's coastline lies on the Biafra Bay, which is part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. The southern rainforest has vast timber reserves, estimated at 37% of Cameroon's total area. The country covers a total area of 475,442 square kilometres.
